Rose Bouquets

4 products found

Everyone understands a rose without words. But the color and number of roses say more than you might think, so it pays to choose them deliberately.

Color and number

Red roses mean love and passion, the natural choice for an anniversary or Valentine's Day. White ones speak of respect and new beginnings, pink of tenderness and gratitude. Cream and peach roses are elegant and carry no particular message, which makes them easy to give. In Poland, roses for happy occasions come in odd numbers, and a single rose is a simple, very personal gesture.

Caring for roses

After unwrapping, cut the stems at an angle by about 2 cm, ideally under running water so no air gets into the stem. Remove leaves below the waterline. Slightly battered outer petals are guard petals that protect the bud in transit; you can gently pull them off. If a rose droops its head, recut the stem and lay the whole rose in cool water for an hour; it often recovers. For roses in a ready-made form that needs no vase, see roses in a box.

Frequently asked questions

How many roses should a bouquet have in Poland?

An odd number: one, three, five, seven or nine. The classic dozen is even, so Poles often give eleven or thirteen instead. With very large bouquets nobody counts, but with small ones it is worth following the custom.

Why do roses wilt before opening?

Usually air in the stem is blocking the water. Recut the stems under water and stand the roses in a deep vase of cool water. Radiator heat and nearby fruit also shorten their life.

What is the difference between spray roses and standard roses?

A spray rose carries several smaller flowers and buds on one stem; a standard rose has a single large bloom. Spray roses make bouquets look lighter and more natural, standard ones give a classic, elegant look.
