Send birthday flowers that suit the person, not a template. Local florists prepare them and deliver to the address you give, on the day you pick.
Picking birthday flowers in Poland
A few local habits are worth knowing if you have not lived here long. Poles give an odd number of flowers for happy occasions: three, five or seven stems. Even numbers are for funerals and graves, and older people in particular notice. Chrysanthemums belong to All Saints' Day on 1 November, so they are not a birthday flower here.
After that, think about the person. Someone with a calm, minimal home will like a single kind of flower in one color, while a mixed bouquet in strong colors suits a livelier character. If you are unsure, a colorful orchid is a safe choice that keeps flowering for weeks after the party. Recipients without a vase will appreciate a flower box, which needs no arranging.
Age plays a part too. Children and teenagers love bright gerberas or sunflowers, mothers and grandmothers tend to appreciate classic roses or an orchid, and for a man a bouquet in deeper colors with plenty of greenery, or a plant for the desk, goes down well.
Name days matter too
Many Poles celebrate their name day (imieniny) as warmly as their birthday, sometimes more so. Colleagues and neighbors tend to know the date, and flowers on that day are a gesture people remember. You can save birthdays and name days under Important dates in your account, and we will remind you by email or app notification, as many days ahead as you choose.
The card and the timing
You can add a card of up to 200 characters, enough for two or three sentences. Something only the two of you would understand works better than a stock phrase. At checkout you choose the delivery day and a time slot; if the florist is still taking orders for today, same-day delivery is available.
Frequently asked questions
Is it rude to give an even number of flowers in Poland?
It can be. Even numbers are associated with funerals and graves, so for birthdays people give three, five or seven stems. With a large, dense bouquet nobody counts, but with a handful of roses it is worth getting right, especially for older recipients.
Can birthday flowers arrive today?
Yes, as long as a florist serving the recipient's address is still accepting orders for today. In that case the Today option is active when you pick the date. If it is grayed out, choose tomorrow or another florist that delivers there.
When is someone's name day?
Each name has its own day in the Polish calendar, and many names have several. People usually celebrate one of them, often the one their family has always marked. If in doubt, ask a relative or a colleague.
Can I make the delivery a surprise?
Choose a time slot when the person will definitely be at the address and mention in the delivery notes that it is a surprise. Add the flat number, floor or door code so the courier can get straight to the door.
