Congratulations Flowers

A defended thesis, a passed exam, a prize, a first exhibition. When someone close achieves something big, flowers from you show that you noticed and that you are proud.
Graduations, exams and other wins
Congratulations are the occasion to be bold. Orange roses, yellow gerberas, sunflowers in summer and dahlias in autumn all say well done without a word. For a thesis defense (obrona) or the matura, Poland's school-leaving exam, a seasonal bouquet works well because it carries the freshness of the season. For someone who likes things that last, choose a colorful orchid.
Size matters here. A graduate heading out to celebrate will not want to carry a huge bouquet around town, so consider sending the flowers home, where they will be waiting afterwards.
A win at a competition, first place in a contest, a passed music school entrance exam: children and teenagers remember gestures like these for years. Choose a smaller, colorful bouquet for them, with gerberas or sunflowers, that they can keep in their own room.
Concerts, recitals and performances
In Poland it is customary to give flowers to performers after a concert, play or recital, children included, for example after a music school concert or a school show. They are usually handed over in person, but a bouquet delivered to the house the same day lets a big evening end on a high note. After an exhibition opening or a premiere, when the artist is showered with flowers on the night, a bouquet that arrives a day later is far more likely to be noticed.
Writing the card
Be specific. Instead of "Congratulations on your success", say what you are happy about: "Five years of work and the diploma is yours. So proud of you." The card holds up to 200 characters, enough for one honest sentence and your name. Promotions and new jobs have their own page: new job and promotion flowers.
Frequently asked questions
What flowers should I bring to a thesis defense?
A medium-sized bouquet in strong colors that is easy to hold for photos outside the university. If the flowers will be waiting at home, you can go bigger or choose an arrangement in a vase.
Are yellow flowers OK for congratulations?
Yes. The old Polish link between yellow flowers and jealousy matters mostly in romantic situations. For congratulations, yellow simply reads as joy and sunshine.
How soon should I send congratulations flowers?
On the day of the good news or the day after, while the excitement is fresh. If a florist near the recipient can still deliver today, go for same-day delivery; otherwise pick the next available date.
