Tulip Bouquets

Tulips are the first sign of spring in a vase. In Poland they are tied to March, Women's Day and longer days, and they reach florists well before spring.

Tulips for Women's Day and beyond

In Poland tulips are the classic flower for 8 March, International Women's Day, which is still widely celebrated here. They also work for birthdays, thanks or an apology, white ones especially. Red tulips speak of affection, yellow of joy, pink of fondness. Double and fringed tulips look more refined than the classic shape, and a single-color bouquet has a clean, modern feel.

Caring for tulips

  • Fill the vase with just a few centimeters of cold water and top it up daily.
  • Cut the stems straight or slightly angled and remove the lower leaves.
  • Tulips keep growing after cutting and bend toward the light; turn the vase daily if you want them upright.
  • Do not put them in the same vase as freshly cut daffodils, whose sap shortens the life of other flowers.

Frequently asked questions

When are tulips in season?

They are easiest to find from January to April, when florists have the most. Outside those months it depends on the florist, so check what is available for the recipient's address.

How many tulips for Women's Day?

Colleagues at work traditionally get a single tulip each, while the women closest to you get a bouquet with an odd number of stems. Five, seven or nine tulips in one color is a simple, elegant choice.
