When they are laid
Mostly on national holidays: 3 May (Constitution Day), 15 August (Armed Forces Day) and 11 November (Independence Day), as well as on anniversaries of local events, at the unveiling of a memorial plaque or at a school or company jubilee. A delegation lays the wreath at a monument or plaque, and the name on the ribbon shows who is paying tribute.
Colors and form
Wreaths for patriotic ceremonies are usually white and red, made of white and red roses or carnations, with a white and red ribbon. For jubilees and institutional anniversaries, the company or school colors are often used. Two or three members of a delegation usually carry the wreath, so when choosing the size, think about who will carry it and how far. Before ordering, look at the wreath's description to see whether a lettered ribbon is part of it. Have the wreath delivered to the institution's premises, where the delegation will collect it, and say in the delivery notes who will receive it. For funerals, see funeral wreaths; all types are under wreaths.
Frequently asked questions
What should the ribbon on a commemorative wreath say?
Usually the full name of the institution or organization, sometimes with a short dedication such as "W hołdzie Bohaterom" (in tribute to the heroes) or the anniversary number. Keep it short and readable from a distance.
Can a private person order a commemorative wreath?
Yes. Families lay wreaths too, for example on the anniversary of a loved one's death, as does anyone who wants to mark an important event. The form and colors then depend on the occasion.
