Schefflera suits people who want a bigger plant without much effort. It does well in a bright spot but tolerates partial shade. Plain green varieties are less demanding, while variegated ones with yellow or cream patches need more light to keep their color. It is easy to prune and shape, so you can grow it as a bush or a small tree.
Care
Water once the upper layer of soil feels dry, and less often in winter. Schefflera dislikes overwatering and drafts and reacts to both by dropping leaves. Wipe the leaves with a damp cloth to remove dust, and now and then give the plant a lukewarm shower. Note for pet owners: schefflera is mildly toxic to cats and dogs. It is a good plant for the office or a new home, and dracaena is just as easy-going.
