Why monstera is so popular
Monstera grows quickly, copes well with indoor conditions and looks more impressive with every new leaf. It makes a good housewarming gift for someone with a bright living room and some space, because a mature plant can grow over two meters tall. A smaller plant on a side table still makes an impression and will turn into a proper specimen over time.
Care
Keep your monstera in a bright spot without harsh sun. Water once the soil has dried a couple of centimeters down. The aerial roots that grow from the stem can be guided into the soil or onto a coir-covered pole for the plant to climb. Wipe the leaves, as clean leaves make better use of the light. Monstera is harmful to cats and dogs; if you have pets, keep it out of their reach. Other large living room plants include ficus and bird of paradise.
Frequently asked questions
Why don't my monstera's leaves have holes?
The plant is usually still young or short of light. Splits appear on new leaves as the monstera matures. Move it somewhere brighter and give it time.
What do yellow monstera leaves mean?
Most often overwatering. Check that the soil is not constantly wet and that no water is sitting in the outer pot. An occasional yellowing lower leaf on an older plant is normal turnover.
